Researchers believe that there is a definite connection between cancers of a particular kind, namely: rectal and breast cancer, and taking showers in chlorinated water.  Why?

The reason is that drinking water with chlorine in it and inhaling the chemical vapors from chlorine seems to pose a health threat.  But think about this, when we take a shower chlorine is absorbed by the skin.  Our skin is the largest body organ.  What you put on it can be absorbed right into the blood stream.

First, Why is Chlorine the Suspected Culprit?

During World War I chlorine gas was used as a chemical weapon.  It irritants the respiratory system.  When you turn on the shower or otherwise use hot water, the chlorine becomes vaporized.  If you have asthma you may have noticed a difference in your breathing in the shower.  Doctors are now recommending a whole house water filter that blocks chlorine.  Whole house filters do more than that. At this point you may be thinking that you have always heard chlorine in the water is beneficial.
That is true and it is false.

Why is it true that chlorine is useful?  It is used by water treatment facilities to disinfect the water it sends to your home.  But when the water is disinfected by chlorine it releases THMs and also chloroform gas.  Certain government agencies have reported that chloroform gas has been found in  most homes.  The reason discovered was: taking showers in chlorinated water.

Chloroform gas exposure can cause headaches, dizziness and fatique.  Also if exposure is over a long period of time, possible damage to the kidneys and liver can happen.

How Can Chlorine Be Removed Effectively

 A whole house filter is the answer to the above dangers.  If you don’t have one then would it not be wise to get one yesterday?

Now do not make the mistake of getting a reverse osmosis filter.  This is another subject but RO is not for the typical in-home water filter system.  I will also cover this in my newsletter.  But quickly RO will not block chlorine.
 
It is crucial that you get the right whole house filter system because some don’t block THMs which is a by-product of  chlorine.  I have found only one such manufacturer that has a filter that protects against most if not all of the contaminants found in water.
