  • Dr. Chan’s book is an excellent resource in which he skillfully answers the many questions patients have in clear understandable language. His writing style is like listening to a very caring physician having a conversation with his patient. I would highly recommend Dr. Chan’s book as a valuable guide for the patient and her family as she journeys through this often confusing and fearful time.

  • I am currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and was fortunate to have a friend who is a nurse oncologist who, when I contacted her to share my diagnosis, strongly recommended Dr. Chan’s book. It has been 6 months since my diagnosis and I have read, re-read, tabbed and highlighted his book and as I am still fighting the fight, Dr. Chan’s book continues to be the most important, comprehensive resource and reference for me in my “cancer library”. The experience of reading his book is as if you are sitting in his office and you have unlimited time to blurt out all the questions that initially race through your mind when first diagnosed and the answers are all there for you. Then, as the initial fog that shrouds your mind when you first hear the words “breast cancer” dissipates and you become immersed in the new breast cancer lexicon, I have turned back to Dr. Chan’s book to gain a better understanding of my disease and the treatments that have been presented. Further, this invaluable resource has helped my husband and I to organize and narrow the focus of what questions to prepare ourselves with for the many visits to the medical and surgical oncologists and reconstructive plastic surgeon. I cannot recommend this book enough-it speaks directly to patients of this awful disease in “layman’s terms”, and arms you with the information you need not only about the disease, but also who are the professionals you need to form your team to fight the disease.

  • This book is excellent. It provides you all the information needed when going through breast cancer from beginning to end. Perfect.

  • I found this book to be a faster read, easier to understand and more to the point than Dr. Love’s Breast Book, which everyone told me to get. This is smaller, cheaper and doesn’t overwhelm you with unnecessary information. He is currently practicing in the field at UCLA. I found his book realistic and more helpful than other information/books.

  • I was diagnosed in October 2006 and began treatment one month later. The time between diagnosis and treatment was fast-paced, confusing and sometimes overwhelming. I had exceptional care, but I was not as proactively informed as I would have liked. Dr. Chan’s book is exactly what I needed then, and it has been tremendously helpful now, over a year later, in understanding what all that took place between surgery, chemo and hormonal therapy. I have recommended this book to all my girlfriends who in one way or another are affected by breast cancer. I can’t recommend this book more strongly to you or your loved one who is now facing breast cancer or trying to make sense of the breast cancer they have already been fighting.
